Brussels Airport Opens New Bus Station on May 7

Airlines & Airports

Brussels Airport is relocating its bus station to a new site from Thursday May 7, as part of preparations for a major infrastructure overhaul that will reshape how passengers and staff move to and from the airport.

The new bus station will be positioned 100 metres from the departure and arrival hall, at the same level 0 as the current facility, with five dedicated platforms serving all bus traffic. A covered walkway will connect it to the terminal via a new access point. Bus schedules will not be affected by the move.

All operators currently serving the airport will use the new station, including all eight De Lijn lines, STIB/MIVB line 12, and intercity coaches from Flibco, Flixbus, Airport Express, and other shuttle services. The new location will also house passenger luggage lockers — currently located next to the existing bus station — giving travellers the option to store bags before heading into Brussels.

The scale of bus operations at the airport is considerable: around 600 buses run to and from Brussels Airport every day, outnumbering daily flights, and approximately 1.3 million passengers and employees use the bus network annually.

The relocation is driven by the need to clear the existing site for the Hub 3.0 project — a major intermodal hub due for completion by 2030. When finished, the new hub will bring all public transport modes together in one place, with better connections to the underground train station, a renovated central bus station, a revamped taxi area, a new intercity bus platform, and a terminus for the planned airport tram. The bus station's current new location is expected to serve for approximately four years while construction on the permanent hub progresses.
