$69 US to Europe one-way ticket flights
CEO of Norwegian Air Shuttle ASA announced $69 flights from US to Europe might be available starting 2017
ASA's Chief Executive Officer Bjørn Kjos declared that Norwegian Air Shuttle ASA aims to sell one-way tickets to Europe by taking off from low fees US airports, like New York's Westchester County Airport and Connecticut's Bradley International Airport. Edinburgh and Bergen airports in Norway will be the final European destination.
Norwegian Air Shuttle ASA is aiming to make non-stop service to small cities and keep low cost fares, as Kjos declares: "I think you will see a lot to that effect within five years' time. What will happen to (Lufthansa) when everyone starts to fly direct?"
Five 100 737 MAX jets from Boeing Co are on order and expected to be received at Norwegian in 2017. Although smaller than most jets, these plans are fully equipped to fly over the Atlantic and, according to Kjos, US regional airports will be able to adjust international traffic schedule in the future to manage extra air traffic.
Several airlines also aim to market low cost flights across the Atlantic. Iceland's Wow Air offers low cost flights on Boston to Paris route for $99 and Eurowings is also planning to start cheap intercontinental flights.
Nevertheless, Kjos is skeptical about Eurowings intention: "I don't believe in their being able to operate low cost with a Boeing 767, in part because the wide-body planes save less fuel and have smaller range than planes such as Boeing Dreamliners in Norwegian's fleet.”
