World’s best airlines 2018: and the winner is…

News

Skytrax has recently announced the winner of the World’s Best Airline in 2018 and it is Singapore Airlines.

It appears that Singapore has one more reason to feel proud this year. After Changi Airport in Singapore won the award for the world’s best airport 2018 a few weeks ago, Skytrax World Airline Awards have recently announced the winner for the world’s best airline and it is Singapore Airlines.

The airline company managed to beat last year’s winner, Qatar Airlines, which this year occupied the second position in the top. The last time Singapore Airlines won this award was back in 2008. Also, in the past seven years, all the awards for world’s best airline were won by carriers based around the Arabian Gulf, with one exception – Cathay Pacific, Hong Kong-based, who was the 2014’s winner.

“We’re very ecstatic,” Yeoh Phee Teik, the company’s senior VP of customer experience, said in an interview to CNN reporters.

The Skytrax World Airline Awards is seen as the Oscars of the airline industry, so it’s clearly a big deal. Additionally, Singapore Airlines did not go home with one prize only, but with three more: for best first class, best first class seat and best airline in Asia.

The second-place winner Qatar Airlines, held the crown for the world’s best airline in 2017, 2015, 2012 and 2011, but the Doha-based carrier didn’t leave empty-handed from the ceremony either. They received the prize for best airline in the Middle East, best business class, and best business class seat.

The aviation industry reviewer, Skytrax, which is based in the UK, began its awards back in 2001. The ones that get to vote which airlines are the best ones are, of course, the passengers. After all, they are in the best position to give feedback to these companies and decide which ones pay the greatest attention to details and provide their customers with the best services.

“I think we can attribute this to the hard working team which has continued to elevate the customer experience,” Yeoh said. “We're glad that our work has been recognized and our customers have voted for us to be the world's best.”
