Work Begins on High-Speed, All-Electric Rail Line Linking Southern California and Las Vegas

Car Rental & Rail

Upon completion, the firm will run a 218-mile fully electric railway, linking the Los Angeles region with Sin City, offering speeds of up to 200 mph.

Brightline, a high-speed rail company, is initiating field investigation activities in Southern California for a new rail link to Las Vegas.

Starting from January 23 to 26, the Brightline West project begins with activities along I-15, as announced by the company on Tuesday. This phase follows earlier field work conducted in Nevada.

Brightline West stated, “This field investigation is a crucial step towards finalizing design plans, leading up to the groundbreaking."

The completed project will see the operation of a 218-mile all-electric rail service between Sin City and the Los Angeles area, achieving speeds of up to 200 mph. The project's timeframe is approximately four years.

The initial investigation includes geotechnical drilling, utility investigations, and land surveying, primarily during daytime hours with some nighttime work to reduce traffic impact.

Investigation locations include:

- I-15 stretch from Primm to Nipton Road
- I-15 segment from Mountain Pass to Minneola Road
- I-15 area from Yermo to I-15/Hwy 58 interchange

This high-speed rail initiative is part of the Department of Transportation's (DOT) broader investment, which includes $8.2 billion for various national rail projects. This includes a new Dallas-Houston service, a Colorado route linking Fort Collins and Pueblo, among others.

Meanwhile, Brightline has been expanding in Florida, launching a Miami-Orlando route recently. Established in 2018, the service initially connected West Palm Beach, Fort Lauderdale, and Miami, and has since grown to include Aventura, Boca Raton, and the latest Orlando station.

Brightline offers passes like the All-Station Shared Pass (starting at $1,199 for access to all stations) and the SoFlo Solo Pass (starting at $399 for 40 rides to South Florida stations).
