Wizz Air Opens New Base at Warsaw–Modlin Airport

Wizz Air has officially opened its newest operational base at Warsaw–Modlin Airport, strengthening its position as one of Poland’s leading airlines. The launch, held on 1 December 2025, includes the deployment of two Airbus A321neo aircraft and the start of 11 new direct routes across Europe. Fares start from EUR 9.99.

 

The base-opening ceremony coincided with the inaugural flight to Barcelona, marked by a ribbon-cutting event attended by representatives from Wizz Air, Warsaw–Modlin Airport and Welcome Airport Services. Passengers were welcomed with sweet treats, and media were briefed on the importance of the new base for the Mazovia region.

Warsaw–Modlin becomes Wizz Air’s sixth base in Poland, joining Gdańsk, Katowice, Kraków, Warsaw Chopin and Wrocław. From Modlin, travellers can now fly directly to Bergamo, Athens, Barcelona, Bergen, Malta, Sofia, Brindisi, Alghero, Paphos, Palermo and Chișinău.

With the launch, Wizz Air will offer over 500,000 seats annually from Modlin and nearly 219 routes from Poland overall. The two A321neo aircraft based at the airport form part of Wizz Air’s modern fleet, which is among the youngest and most fuel-efficient in the world.

The investment will create 80 direct jobs for crew and support up to 700 indirect jobs across tourism and services.

“Poland has been at the heart of Wizz Air’s network since 2004,” said Andras Szabo, Network Officer. “This new base allows us to introduce 11 new routes and expand opportunities for the 128 million passengers who have flown with us.”

Airport executives also highlighted the long-term regional benefits, calling the new base “a milestone” for Warsaw–Modlin’s development and a boost for connectivity and economic growth.
