Wizz Air Expands Milan Malpensa Base with 10th Aircraft and New Routes

Airlines & Airports

Wizz Air has announced a major expansion of its operations at Milan Malpensa Airport, confirming the addition of a 10th aircraft to its base from 25 October 2026.

The move, developed in partnership with SEA Milan Airports, will increase the airline’s capacity by around 500,000 seats annually and support the creation of 40 direct jobs, alongside more than 350 indirect roles across the local supply chain.

With the new aircraft, Milan Malpensa will strengthen its position as Wizz Air’s second largest base in Italy, growing to 47 routes across 21 countries.

The expansion includes the launch of five new international routes connecting Milan with Dortmund, Bilbao, Cluj, Iași and Palma de Mallorca. Services will begin between May and October 2026, with frequencies ranging from three weekly flights to daily operations depending on the route.

Wizz Air will also expand its domestic network, introducing new routes to Naples and Palermo. The Milan–Naples route will be increased to double daily flights from September, reflecting strong demand between Northern and Southern Italy.

Additional capacity will be added on several high-demand international routes, including Corfu, Heraklion, Tirana, Valencia and Warsaw, further strengthening connectivity from the Lombardy region.

For the upcoming summer season, Wizz Air plans to operate up to 22 weekly flights from Milan to Catania and up to seven weekly services to Lampedusa, offering increased flexibility for domestic travelers.

The airline said the expansion reflects strong demand in the Milan region, where it plans to offer nearly 5.5 million seats in 2026, representing a growth of almost 20 percent compared to the previous year. Since launching operations at Milan Malpensa, Wizz Air has carried more than 18 million passengers to and from the airport.

The development is part of Wizz Air’s broader growth strategy in Italy, where the airline plans to operate 36 aircraft across six bases and offer around 27 million seats in 2026.
