KLM Names First Airbus A350 After Rembrandt's The Night Watch
KLM has revealed that its first Airbus A350 will be named "The Night Watch," after Rembrandt van Rijn's iconic painting, introducing a new naming theme for the fleet based on celebrated Dutch artworks.
The aircraft, fully painted in KLM's livery and currently undergoing final preparations in Toulouse, is expected to be delivered to the airline at the end of August. Its first commercial passenger flight is scheduled for September, with Toronto as the inaugural destination.
The Airbus A350 will feature 331 seats across three cabins: 34 in World Business Class, 26 in Premium Comfort, and 271 in Economy Class. However, due to a revised regulatory interpretation by aviation authorities, certification of the World Business Class seats has not yet been completed, meaning this cabin will not be available when the first two aircraft enter service. The seat manufacturer is working to finalize certification as quickly as possible. Premium Comfort, offering extra legroom and a dedicated dining experience, will be available from the outset.
The A350 forms part of a broader €7 billion fleet renewal programme at KLM over the coming years, which also includes the Airbus A350F freighter, new Embraer 195-E2 aircraft for KLM Cityhopper, additional Airbus A321neo aircraft for European routes, and new Boeing 787s for intercontinental service.
