Volotea Resumes Murcia–Barcelona Route with Growth

Airlines & Airports

Volotea has restarted its direct connection between Murcia International Airport and Barcelona-El Prat, operating two weekly flights since 4 July 2025. The route, first launched in late 2023, has been well received, with nearly 50,000 passengers flown to date, according to the airline.

For the current summer season, Volotea has scheduled around 40,000 seats on this route, a 17% increase compared to last year. The carrier also announced plans to boost frequency to three flights per week this winter, reinforcing its commitment to domestic travel across Spain.

Gabriel Schmilovich, Volotea’s Director of Strategy, said:

“Resuming flights between Murcia and Barcelona allows us to continue a connection highly valued by travelers between the two regions. We thank the Region of Murcia, its residents, and Murcia International Airport for their warm reception and ongoing support.”

Since 2019, Volotea has carried over 210,000 passengers via Murcia Airport, solidifying its role as a key carrier in the region. Alongside Barcelona, the airline also operates flights from Murcia to Bilbao, Asturias, and Marseille, connecting both domestic and international destinations. From Barcelona-El Prat, Volotea offers further connections across Spain, France, and Italy.
