Vietnam launches new tourist destination

News

Heights enthusiasts can now visit the world’s longest glass-bottom pedestrian bridge in Vietnam.

Suspended 150 metres above an impressive forested valley, the Bach Long bridge is located in the Moc Chau district of the northwestern Son La province, around 200 kilometres from Hanoi, and connects the Mộc Châu Island Mountain Park and Resort in what is a 632-metre long unique attraction.

According to the local authorities, Bach Long is currently the world's longest glass-bottomed bridge, as Guinness World Records officials are expected to confirm the claim.

"When standing on the bridge, travellers will be able to admire the beauty of nature below," declared Hoang Manh Duy, while speaking in the name of Bach Long’s operating company.

The bridge, called “White Dragon” in Vietnamese, can support up to 450 people.

The bridge's deck is made of 40mm thin tempered glass produced by French company Saint Gobain; its cable system was imported from South Korea. For traffic safety, the bridge can just be transited in only one direction for the time being.

The White Dragon has opened at the end of April. As for the next steps, the operating company will start testing the bridge by also driving heavy vehicles over it.

Hoang Thi Nhu, a representative of Moc Chau Island Tourist Area, the company in charge of the bridge, declared that Bach Long attracted more than 4,000 visitors during its inauguration day and almost 15,000 in the days to come.

In the meantime, Vietnam’s tourism industry is set to revive, after two years of shutdown due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

With the country preparing to host the Southeast Asian Games in less than two weeks and the latest Bach Long touristic attraction unveiled, officials hope to boost travel from countries all over the world.

"I hope the bridge will lure more domestic and international tourists to our area. Stepping on the bridge and looking down is scary at first, but it is an amazing experience", commented a local resident.

As the country reopened its borders to international tourists two months ago, thrill seekers and adrenaline enthusiasts can now enjoy the fascination of heights and the natural landscape while visiting Vietnam’s latest Bach Long suspended glass bridge.
