Vienna Airport Cargo Up 8% in 2025
Vienna Airport has strengthened its position as a leading cargo hub for Central and Eastern Europe, reporting an 8% increase in cargo volume during the first three quarters of 2025. From January to September, the airport handled 233,233 tonnes of freight, driven by strong demand in belly-hold capacity and e-commerce logistics.
Belly cargo and pharma handling were key growth drivers. Freight carried in passenger aircraft bellies rose 2% to 92,604 tonnes, with double-digit increases in July (+12%) and August (+10%). Import volumes grew 5% to 125,284 tonnes, while exports climbed 11% to 107,949 tonnes.
The Vienna Pharma Handling Center, one of the region’s few specialized facilities for temperature-sensitive goods, handled 3,307 tonnes of pharmaceuticals—up 7.4% year-on-year.
“Vienna is a logistics competence center for diverse cargo—from traditional air freight to pharma,” said Michael Zach, Senior Vice President of Ground Handling & Cargo Operations. “Our efficiency and high service quality position us well for continued growth.”
Strategically located at the crossroads of Europe, Vienna Airport enables 24/7 cargo operations and offers ten Category F parking bays for large aircraft such as Boeing 747s and Antonov 124s. Its road feeder network connects major business and consumer centers in Central and Eastern Europe within 24–48 hours.
Operated by Flughafen Wien AG, a publicly listed company employing over 5,400 people, the airport continues to play a vital role in European trade and logistics infrastructure.
