Traveling to Cuba remains prohibited for American tourists, in spite of announcement of sanctions relief for authorized trips
According to the US administration officials, the United States government continues to ban American tourists to travel to Cuba.
“It is important to note that travel to Cuba for tourist activities remains prohibited by statue,” quotes the official statement.
Despite Washington announcing the third round of changes to ease the regulations policy regarding sanctions on traveling to the island nation and to facilitated authorized purposes trips, the US officials only allowed traveling related to professional gatherings, disaster trainings, media and artistic projects.
The US Treasury Department’s Cuban Assets Control Regulations listed 12 specific purposes that are allowed to travel for, such as journalistic, educational, religious, infrastructure projects, professional and humanitarian activities, family visits and Cuban people support purposes.
Last year's September, the Obama administration relaxed regulations with Cuba, aiming to ease and improve US citizens' business relationships and reflect Washington's stated goal of meeting the needs of the Cuban people at the same time.
“Just as the United States is doing its part to remove impediments that have been holding Cubans back, we urge the Cuban government to make it easier for its citizens to start businesses, engage in trade and access information on-line,” the spokesman of the National Security Council declared on Tuesday.
Nevertheless, in spite of improved political relations between the two countries, Washington decided to maintain the trade embargo on Havana.
