Upcoming S-Bahn Restrictions at Berlin’s BER Airport in May 2024

Airlines & Airports

Due to construction, there will be significant restrictions on the S45 and S9 suburban train lines at Berlin's BER Airport from May 13 to May 24, 2024. Alternative transport options and rail replacement services are advised.

Construction Leads to S-Bahn Service Disruptions at Berlin BER Airport

Travelers using Berlin’s BER Airport will face disruptions on suburban train lines S45 and S9 due to construction works scheduled for May 2024. The Berlin-Brandenburg Transport Association (VBB) has announced restrictions and recommends passengers plan alternative transportation methods such as the FEX or regional trains.

Night Shuttle Service Adjustments

From May 13 to May 17, the S9 and S45 lines will operate limited service between 10 PM and 1:30 AM. Trains will run from BER to the Altglienicke suburban station, and depending on the day and construction phase, some services on the S9 line may extend to the Schöneweide suburban station. To accommodate travelers during these hours, a rail replacement bus service will be available.

Comprehensive Daytime Disruptions

The situation will intensify from the night of May 17, starting at 10 PM, through to 1:30 AM on May 24. During this period, both the S9 and S45 lines will experience all-day service disruptions. Specifically:

  • The S45 will operate only between BER Airport to S Altglienicke and from S Baumschulenweg to S Südkreuz.
  • The S9 will run from BER Airport to S Altglienicke and from S Schöneweide to S Spandau.

To assist passengers affected by these disruptions, a rail replacement service will operate from BER Airport to S Baumschulenweg, departing from bus stop B at Airport City.

Planning Ahead

Travelers planning to use the S-Bahn to or from BER during these dates are strongly advised to check the VBB website for the latest updates and consider alternative transportation options to ensure timely arrival at their destinations. This proactive approach will help mitigate any potential travel delays caused by the construction.

The temporary adjustments to S-Bahn services are part of ongoing improvements to Berlin's transportation infrastructure, aiming to enhance the efficiency and reliability of public transport services around the capital city and its major international airport.
