UNWTO and Astana EXPO 2017 promote sustainable tourism

Astana EXPO 2017 National Company and World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) are to become partners in order to promote sustainable tourism at the international exhibition that will take place in 2017 in the region of Astana. Held under the name of “Future Energy”, the international exhibition aims to make a statement about the importance of energy consumption and efficiency in the tourism field.

The signing ceremony that marked the beginning of this partnership occurred on 13th of June at the UNWTO Headquarters in Madrid. The two responsible who signed the agreement were the UNWTO Secretary-General, Taleb Rifai and Akhmetzhan Yessimov, Chairman of Board for Astana EXPO 2017 National Company. The two of them also made official declarations after the ceremony.

“This is an excellent opportunity to highlight the role that the tourism sector has in advancing a greener future,” said UNWTO Secretary-General in the signature of the agreement. “Kazakhstan is rich in energy resources but we need to look into the future and protect our environment, and the future is renewable energies”, added Mr. Yessimov.

The UNWTO and Astana Expo duties under the agreements are not only to be a permanent advocate for the energy efficiency, but also to support the visibility of the Fair all over the world, to maintain the popularity of UNWTO Silk Road initiative and more and most important to disseminate the news and related information about the International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development 2017.
