TUI Names New Aircraft “Kuusamo” at Local Airport
TUI has officially named its latest Boeing 737-8 aircraft “Kuusamo” during a special ceremony at Kuusamo Airport on February 22, 2026 — marking the fourth aircraft in the airline’s fleet to be christened after a Finnish travel destination.
The naming event brought together representatives from TUI, Finavia and local officials, with Jouko Manninen, Mayor of Kuusamo, serving as the aircraft’s official godfather.
Kuusamo has become one of TUI’s key winter destinations, and this season the airline is expected to bring more than 60,000 visitors from countries including the UK, the Netherlands and Belgium to Northern Finland’s scenic landscapes.
Finavia emphasised the growing popularity of the region, with Petri Vuori, Senior Vice President of Route Development, highlighting the importance of TUI’s role in supporting tourism to Kuusamo and the surrounding area.
In remarks shared at the ceremony, TUI noted that naming planes after partner destinations celebrates local identity and strengthens connections between regions and travellers — turning each aircraft into a “flying ambassador” for its namesake.
The new “Kuusamo” aircraft joins other TUI planes named after Finnish destinations such as Kittilä, Rovaniemi and Ivalo, reflecting the airline’s ongoing commitment to the country’s tourism sector.
Two reindeer — fitting guests for a Lapland event — were also present, observing the festivities from outside the airport fence.
