Train Service Between Portland And Seattle Is Temporarily Suspended

Amtrak halts Seattle-Portland service due to a landslide, suspending trains until 8:30 a.m. PT Thursday.
The disruption arises from a BNSF Railway passenger train restriction following the landslide, prompting Amtrak to cancel services temporarily.
Amtrak assures alternative transport arrangements and ongoing operations between Portland-Eugene, Oregon, and Seattle-Vancouver, British Columbia, remain unaffected.
The company pledges regular updates until service normalizes and encourages customers to seek assistance via a provided helpline. With its typical operation of four daily round-trip trains between Portland and Seattle, Amtrak aims to swiftly resolve the situation.
“We will continue to keep you updated and will let you know when this situation is resolved and normal service has resumed,” the company’s representatives declared.
In tandem, over 10 million people in the Pacific Northwest face flood alerts amid a strong atmospheric river. Anticipating further heavy rainfall in specific areas until Wednesday, concerns persist for Oregon's Cascade Mountains, southern Washington, and the far reaches of north-west California. Western Washington is also bracing for additional heavy rain over the next two days, which may cause widespread flooding and perhaps more landslides.
By Tuesday afternoon, several rivers will likely begin to exceed their banks, and in some areas, residents may be asked to evacuate.
