Tourism Executives In Africa To Prioritize Global Concerns

Destinations & Tourism

African perspectives on worldwide challenges were shared at the Rethinking Africa event.

The meeting focused on the importance of funding in a greener tourism sector, as well as the necessity of further strengthening public-private partnerships.

The Conference revolved around two topics, the first of which focused on "Promoting Investment and Partnerships in Tourism for Economic Development," reflecting the growing importance of tourism as a means of resolving a wide range of global issues and a central plank of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Consistent with UNWTO's objectives for the industry, the second session highlighted the significance of better-targeted funding in tourism, as well as the value of fostering tourism intelligence in projects that have the capability to increase sustainability, durability, and inclusiveness.

At the end of the meeting, the host nation and the UNWTO unveiled the Mauritius Declaration. Actions outlined were intended to foster tourism ecosystems that are both resilient and environmentally conscious through things like cross-sector collaboration, ethical business practices, investment incentives, solutions rooted in nature, climate change mitigation, public health teamwork, policy coordination, and the use of information to help make decisions.

Multiple strategies were included into this curriculum: fostering collaboration and ethical tourism; increasing opportunities for funding and industry innovation; the management of public health emergencies and disasters; the fusion of local and regional tourism; the promotion of socially conscious and cooperative tourism; the introduction of marine-based tourism; highlighting the importance of public-private-community partnerships and other forms of shared governance; introducing the Global Initiative for Responsible Travel in Africa, and more.

The Member States of the UNWTO, the African Union Commission, as well as local economic communities and partners were all urged to lend their assistance, to ensure that this program can be implemented in the most favourable circumstances.
