These Are the Most Punctual European Airports & Airlines

Eurowings, which was ranked 29th in 2019 but now ranked third with 95.23 percent on-time performance on an international scale, has become the most punctual airline of Europe in 2022.

Eurowings, according to OAG (the global travel data provider), is the top airline for punctuality by 2022. This is an improvement from its ninth place in 2019. SchengenVisaInfo.com reported that the airline's on-time performance has also improved, going from 80.20 percent in 2019 to 95.26% in 2022.

Iberia, Air Europe and Eurowings are the second and third most punctual European airlines, with punctuality rate of 84.06 per cent and 79.30 percent, respectively. Eurowings has a cancellation rate that is much higher than these two airlines.

In 2022, Eurowings was ranked first with a cancellation percentage of 3.60 percent. Iberia had the lowest cancellation ratio - only 0.03 percent.

OAG's Top 10 Most Punctual European Airlines

Top ten airlines for on-time performance include Austrian Airlines AG dba Austria (81.05%), ITA Airways (79.59%), Norwegian Air Shuttle (70.12%), Finnair (77.36%), Pegasus Airlines (75.07%), LOT- Polish Airlines (74.75%) and KLM Royal Dutch Airlines (78.57%).

This group's average OTP is 80.62 percent, down from an average of 84.0 percent in 2019. The average cancellation rate for this group is 1.06 percent, and Eurowings, the airline with the best punctuality this year, had the highest cancellation at 3.62 percentage points.

Garuda Indonesia, which has a punctuality rate of 95.63 percent, is ranked first after ranking second in 2019.

The punctuality rate for European airports was significantly lower than that of Japan, which ranked in the top twenty on an international scale.

Japanese airports are the most punctual at international level. They have all four top spots: Osaka (91.45% on-time performance), Matsytama (91.44%), Miyazaki (91.34%) and Nagoya Chubu Centrair International Airport 90.78%.

OAG data shows that Stuttgart Airport ranked number one for punctuality, with an on-time rate of 84.20 percent, followed by Dublin Airport (82.69%) and Malta (82.69%).

Trondheim, Stavanger and Bergen, three Norwegian airports, are ranked respectively fifth, sixth, and seventh. They all have OTPs of 79 percent. Three other airports from the eighth to tenth places also reported an OTP at 79 percent with only very small differences in decimal places.

The highest cancellation rates were recorded at Bergen Airport (BGO), with 3.24 percent. Stavanger Airport (3.19 percent) and Trondheim Vaernes Airport 2.75 percent followed. Stuttgart Airport had the lowest cancellation rate in Europe, which was only 2.45 percentage points.
