The Indian consulate in Dubai warns job-seekers to be cautious
After massive numbers of Indians traveling to the UAE on visit visas have been cheated, authorities warn job-seekers about frauds.
According to the Indian consul general Vipul based in Dubai, people from India aiming to work in the UAE are being cheated by fraudulent agents, as the visit visas do not allow them to be employed in the Arabian Peninsula.
"Those seeking jobs in the UAE should not come on visit visa and their employment offers must be authenticated along with their entry permit visas before embarking to the UAE. There was one group of 27 men who arrived here from Uttar Pradesh on visit visas. It was a clear case of cheating as there were no jobs. They were without food or money and we had to step in and buy them air tickets and send them back home. In one instance a woman nurse was given the job of a house maid," he commented.
Moreover, the consul explained that the diplomatic mission often mediates the conflicts that emerge between the workers and their employers, and in some cases the consulate even steps in to recover the passports of Indian citizens and proceed to repatriation.
The reaction comes after the diplomatic mission has received a large number of complaints on the fraud matter, resulting in 225 air tickets last year and 186 in 2017, after the workers have been cheated by employers in the UAE. Plus, during the first half of this year, from 792 job inquiries, only 66 of them proved to be genuine.
The exception applies to the job-seekers under the Emigration Clearance Required (ECR), that are protected by the governmental regulations of the official e-Migrate online recruitment system.
The circumstances due to fake websites of reputed institutions in the UAE offering jobs for Indian citizens. In order to clarify the situation, The Indian Workers Resource Centre of to the Indian Embassy can be contacted at help@iwrcuae.in to find out if the job offer is suspicious or not.
