After completion of €19 million reconstruction project, the reopening of the Lithuanian airport was celebrated by the Department of Tourism.

The Lithuanian capital’s airport now benefits an exclusively renovated runaway, after €19 million investment for the reconstruction works that lasted for 35 days.

During the development of the project, all flights to Vilnius landed to Kaunas Airport, which is also slowly expanding its capacity in order to cope with the increasing number of visitors. Kaunas served 4.000 flights and 360.000 passengers while the main Lithuanian capital was closed for renovations.

While attending the reopening ceremony on the tarmac, Monika Počikovskytė, chief specialist at Lithuania’s Department of Tourism declared:

“We’re delighted with the Vilnius Airport renovation works which have been completed within such a short space of time. This not only demonstrates our ongoing commitment to investing in our tourism industry, but also demonstrates the rise in visitor numbers we have experienced over the past few years, showing that Lithuania is the destination to visit this year and beyond.”

The goal of this project was to upgrade pavements, the reinforcement of foundations, drainage and water collection networks, as well as the renewal of the lighting control system. The entire restoration process will continue for a few more months, but without affecting the flying schedule or the transit of passengers.

The latest restoration works, as well as the new direct connections with most parts of Europe make Lithuania more accessible than ever.
