Spain Will Offer Direct Flights to Azores This Summer

As summer approaches, flights to and from Spain are expanding. For the first time in history, Spanish citizens will be able to reach the Portuguese archipelago Azores directly.
SchengenVisaInfo.com reported that direct flights would be possible via the Portuguese airline SATA Air Azores and Binter, which is the flag carrier for the Canary Islands.
Nation Graphics reported that the Azores' stunning views attract many international tourists, and make you feel like you are far from everything. Travellers from Spain are now closer than ever before to the "European Hawaii". This summer, there will be four direct flights from the Azores to Spanish airports: Madrid, Barcelona Bilbao, and Gran Canaria.
Bilbao, the second largest city in the Portuguese archipelago, will have direct flights from June 2, 2018 to September 29, 2018.
SATA Air Azores also has a new route connecting the city of Biscayan with Ponta Delgada via Juan Pablo II International Airport.
Iberia announced last week that it would be launching a weekly direct flight to Spain from July 1, until September 30. Iberia will begin operating a weekly direct flight between the Spanish capital and Ponta Delgada, which takes three hours and 25 minutes. This service is available on Mondays. Wednesdays and Saturdays.
The Josep Tarradellas airport in Barcelona-El Prat will also add a new connection with Ponta Delgada, offering three flights per week: on Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday.
Binter, in collaboration with SATA Azores Airlines and the Canarian company, is able to link the Canary Islands to eight Azores islands after landing at Ponta Delgada.
The airlines have stressed that this cooperation will improve the comfort for passengers who can make these connections with only a single ticket.
A weekly connection is available since last month from the Gran Canaria Airport on Saturdays. From July 1, a second service will operate on Tuesdays.
If the Azores are not reachable directly, they can still be reached via other cities. TAP Air Lisbon connects 12 Spanish airports to Lisbon in the summer. These are located in the cities listed below:
- Alicante
- Ibiza
- Malaga
- Menorca
- Palma de Mallorca
- Seville
- Tenerife
- The company also connects the Portuguese capital to Ponta Delgada three times per day. The Humberto Delgado Airport is also a good transit airport to reach the archipelago.
