Smart Gates At Dubai International Airport To Speed Up Passport Control

Airlines & Airports

More than 9 million savvy travellers used these entrances throughout the first six months of the year.

Airports in the United Arab Emirates are gearing up to receive thousands of vacationers as the country's two-month summer holiday draws to a close. As a result, airports should expect higher than average passenger volumes. There will be approximately 3.3 million passengers passing through DXB, the world's busiest airport, in the next thirteen days.

However, in order to cope with the enhanced traffic, travellers above the age of 12 will be allowed to utilize smart gates to expedite the passport control procedure, making it more convenient for families flying with young children. Passengers between the ages of four and twelve have their own passport control lanes where they may have their passports stamped on their own.

Smart gates also allow passengers to breeze through immigration procedures in a matter of seconds. According to an announcement by the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA), 9 million people used these gates for quick and effective transit in the first six months of 2023. This amounts to nearly 36% of the roughly 26 million travellers who used DXB.

120 automated gates may be found at the airport. In order to pass through security at DXB, registered travellers need only to gaze at the green light rather than scanning any documents. The green light may be seen above the gate-monitoring cameras.

The GDRFA website specifies that the gates are accessible to UAE and GCC nationals, permanent residents, visa-on-arrival applicants, and those in possession of valid, previously granted visas. They must, however, be above 1.2 meters in height and registered.

Accessibility checks for the smart gates are now available on the GDRFA portal.
