Schiphol To No Longer Impose A Passenger Limit

Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport will no longer impose a limit on the number of leaving passengers.
This change will take effect at the beginning of the summer travel season this year.
The Netherlands hub airport, which has put a restriction on passenger numbers owing to a shortage of employees for the summer 2022 and winter 2022-23 seasons, declared that the cap will no longer be required as of March 26. But Schiphol also issued a warning that extra effort will be necessary from all parties involved at numerous peak points, notably in the morning, in order to avoid unduly lengthy line-ups and delays in processing.
In order to "resolve" this possible problem, the airport said that it will be conducting discussions with airlines, ground handlers, and the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee, which is responsible for operating passport control.
The Chief Executive Officer of Schiphol, Ruud Sondag, released the following statement:
“I am pleased for our travellers, employees and airlines with the progress we have collectively made. Things are looking good heading towards the May holidays. From the start of the 2023 season at the end of March, we are going to scale up further in a responsible and phased manner, in the interest of those travellers, employees and airlines.
“We are not going to take any risks. We want to once again offer the quality and certainty that everyone can expect of Schiphol. That's why we are working with our partners at the airport to tackle the remaining bottlenecks as we head towards the May holidays and beyond.”
The Dutch government also intends to implement a policy later this year that will reduce the number of flights that are authorised to depart from Schiphol Airport. This move is part of a larger plan to cut down on excessive noise and air pollution. This policy may have an impact on the future development of Schiphol. It is anticipated that the measure to limit the number of flights to 440,000 per year would go into effect in November of 2023.
