Schiphol Begins Construction of New P3 Parking Garage

Royal Schiphol Group and BAM Nederland have started construction on a new parking garage at the P3 long-stay car park at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. The project will add more than 4,000 sheltered parking spaces to the airport’s largest parking facility, with operations expected to begin in mid-2027.

 

The additional capacity will boost the total number of spaces at P3 to around 18,000, with about half of those covered, offering travellers more sheltered long-stay options. The new garage will be built adjacent to the existing P3 area and bus stop, allowing passengers to park and access a free electric shuttle bus that departs every ten minutes and reaches the main terminal in approximately five minutes.

Schiphol says the expansion addresses anticipated growth in passenger numbers and increased demand for parking space, particularly as larger aircraft and higher travel volumes influence long-term airport planning.

Sustainability is central to the project’s design. The new structure will feature a wooden façade and an energy-positive roof equipped with more than 9,000 solar panels and will utilise low-carbon concrete and recycled materials wherever feasible. Construction will seek to minimise emissions by using electric machinery, such as electric pile drivers and cranes.

Airport officials emphasise that the new garage forms part of a broader initiative to future-proof Schiphol’s infrastructure, improve passenger experience and maintain accessibility as travel demand grows.
