
Schiphol Airport Employs Predictive Tech for Real-Time Baggage Updates

Schiphol now offers passengers the convenience of tracking their luggage in real-time, utilizing predictive algorithms to display baggage arrival times on screens, via the Schiphol app, and online.
Schiphol Airport has launched a new service that allows passengers to receive real-time updates on the status and arrival time of their luggage. Leveraging advanced predictive algorithms, Schiphol aims to enhance the passenger experience by providing precise information about when and where luggage will be available for pickup.
This technology, which has been utilized in the ground handling of aircraft to optimize the turnaround process, is now extended to baggage handling. Information about whether luggage is still aboard the aircraft, en route to the baggage claim area, or already on the conveyor belt can be accessed through the airport’s 150 screens located in the baggage halls, the Schiphol app, and the airport's website.
Sander van Tienhoven, Product Owner Passenger Information at Schiphol, highlighted the importance of this development, stating, "Our surveys among passengers revealed a strong desire for more transparency regarding the arrival of their baggage. Our new AI-driven system fulfills this need by providing clear, timely updates."
The Technology Behind the Service:
Schiphol's self-learning model integrates data from thirteen different sources, including the Deep Turnaround technology, to forecast baggage arrival times accurately. This technology offers insights into the entire aircraft turnaround process, including cleaning, catering, baggage handling, and refueling, enabling the airport to determine the precise location of luggage at any given moment.
Passengers can now monitor each step of their luggage’s journey through the airport, from landing to delivery at the baggage claim, enhancing their overall travel experience and reducing uncertainty and wait times.
