SAS launches Starlink high-speed WiFi across its fleet
SAS has begun rolling out next-generation high-speed WiFi across its fleet, powered by Starlink’s low-Earth orbit satellite network.
he new connectivity solution offers speeds of up to 500 Mbps and provides reliable, gate-to-gate internet access, even on routes where connectivity has traditionally been limited. EuroBonus members can access the service for free as part of a partnership with mobile operator 3.
The rollout has started with the Airbus A320 fleet and is expected to expand across additional aircraft types over time. SAS aims to have a significant portion of its fleet connected before the summer season.
With more than 10,000 Starlink satellites in orbit, the system ensures consistent performance, including in northern regions where inflight connectivity has historically been challenging.
The airline says the upgrade is part of its broader strategy to enhance the digital passenger experience, enabling travellers to work, stream, communicate and stay connected throughout their journey.
SAS also conducted a successful demonstration flight in January, showcasing the system’s ability to support streaming, gaming and real-time communication onboard.
The introduction of Starlink marks a major step in SAS’s transformation, with further digital services expected to follow as connectivity capabilities expand.
