Record year forecast for Thailand tourism

Country officials predict new tourism boost thanks to Chinese visitors, as this year's bomb attack in August seriously affected Thailand's tourism industry

Despite violent events and natural disasters in the last decade, Thailand's tourism bounced back and recovered, reinforcing the country's reputation as one of the most attractive destinations among France, China, the United States, Spain and Turkey, which usually hit record numbers of foreign visitors every year (going up to more than 30 million tourists).

According to Ittirit Kinglek, the tourism council president, the August 17th bombing in Bangkok that killed 20 people did “not significantly affect” the industry overall.

More than 30 million visitors are expected to arrive this year. Thailand’s tourism council is forecasting an increase of 22 per cent when compared to last year's figures. Chinese tourists are expected to boost the country's tourism influx by 8.1 million visitors, as Thailand seems to be a very appealing holiday destination. “I feel like a real rich person there, and a lot of good food, best service. I feel safe. No war, no anti-China stuff. A great country, I will definitely go there again”, said Liang Jing, a Chinese tourist from Shanghai.

Thailand has gained over the last decades an excellent reputation for its hospitality, cultivated values and also for its variety of holiday sites, from the busy metropolitan of Bangkok to relaxing beaches in the South or small peaceful cities in the North.
