London's Heathrow Airport welcomes record passenger numbers

Airline News

6.1 million passengers have transited the largest airport in London in March 2016, 2.5 per cent more when compared to March 2015

The constant growth in passenger numbers has been attributed to the emerging markets of China, Mexico, India and the Middle East and to the significant upgrades that most of the carriers applied on their aircrafts' fleet.

Also, airlines have improved their services and added more routes to provide for British passengers an easier access to popular hot-spots located in south-east Asia: Emirates, East Asia, Vietnam Airlines and Garuda Indonesia have all registered a considerable increase in frequency from Heathrow to exotic destinations.

Heathrow chief executive John Holland-Kaye explains:

“It’s been a record March for Heathrow and I’m delighted that we’ve added the UK’s first direct connection to Indonesia.

“As south-east Asia’s largest economy, Garuda Indonesia’s new route will be a significant boon for British SMEs looking for new export opportunities.

“But it isn’t just Indonesia waiting to access the UK’s only hub – there is a queue of over 30 airlines waiting for slots from Heathrow.

“With expansion, we can supercharge British trade by opening up 40 new long haul trading links with the fastest growing markets in the world.”

Moreover, as future plans, London's Heathrow Airport, UK's largest hub, aims to improve operational sustainability and also encourage freight companies to lower emissions and provide environmental-friendly services.
