IndiGo Launches New Flight Route to Jakarta, Indonesia

IndiGo began flying from Mumbai to Jakarta, Indonesia as part of the recent expansion of IndiGo's international operations in Asia and other regions.
The airline is expanding its operations overseas and has recently launched its first flight to Africa, a flight from Mumbai to Nairobi in Kenya.
IndiGo's first flight from Mumbai, India's capital city of commerce, to Jakarta took place on August 7. Jakarta is IndiGo’s 28th international destination and 106th total destination. IndiGo is the first airline in the world to connect Mumbai directly with Jakarta. Vinay Malhotra is the head of IndiGo's global sales.
"This new route not only strengthens bilateral ties and enhances direct connectivity, but also enables access and promotes trade and tourism across Indonesia and India. For further expansion, this route connects Jakarta to IndiGo's wide network across India, Central Asia and the Middle East."
Airbus A320neo, the airline's trusted workhorse aircraft, is deployed on a route that will take a little more than 6 hours to complete.
Earlier, Indonesian Minister of Tourism, Creative Economy and Tourism, Sandiaga Salhuddin, welcomed IndiGo’s decision to launch a nonstop service from Mumbai. He also highlighted the fact that Indian tourists were amongst the top five foreign tourists who visited Indonesia. He hopes that this flight will help Indonesia reach its target of 8.5 millions foreign tourists.
IndiGo has a larger plan for international expansion. The airline recently operated its first flight into Africa, flying between Mumbai and Nairobi, Kenya. The carrier will soon start flying to Baku, Azerbaijan. This will be the carrier's 30th international destination as well as its 108th destination overall.
IndiGo has already seized a little more than 35% of the Indian airline's international market. Vinay Malhotra is the head of global sales for IndiGo. He told Deccan Herald the airline's flights from India to Singapore, Thailand and Maldives are doing well.
IndiGo's codeshare agreement with Turkish Airlines allows it to offer convenient connections to a number of European and US destinations. This includes eight flights per day to the UK. He said that IndiGo is interested in exploring locations within a 6-7 hour range of its aircraft, which are well suited for the type of aircraft they fly.
IndiGo could fly to Europe and the Far East directly in the future, once it acquires long-range Airbus A321XLRs. Airbus has ordered almost 1,000 aircraft for IndiGo, which will be delivered over the next decade.
