Heathrow Airport will expand – a third runway was confirmed

The transport minister has announced the expansion of the main international airport in London, United Kingdom.
The expansion was endorsed by Lord Callanan, as the last Queen’s Speech omitted this aspect. A third runway will be build in the future at Heathrow Airoport.
“The reason it was not included in the Queen’s Speech is very simple: it does not require legislation. Heathrow is proceeding and we are committed to it. Unless we get this runway built that slide will continue,” commented Lord Callanan, during the Abta Travel Matters, in an attempt to underline that the country urgently needs the airport improvements in order to attain “greater passenger choice and lower fares”.
14 new domestic links are planned to be added to the third runway, as a solution for the heavy traffic in South East England, the Department for Transport has mentioned.
The timetable for these improvements were not offered by the Minister of Transport, but the next steps of the project are expected in the near future.
Nevertheless, opponents of the measure, such as Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson, declared to fight the expansion “to the very last ditch”.
