Bulgaria has ended all Covid-19 travel restrictions

Starting May 1, worldwide travellers aiming to visit Bulgaria will be able to enter the country freely, regardless vaccination status.
The announcement regarding the relaxation of previous entry rules related to the Covid-19 pandemic was made by the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry.
“As of May 1, 2022, all COVID-19-related travel restrictions will be lifted. From this date on, all the arriving passengers will no longer be obliged to provide COVID-19 related documents (i.e., COVID-19 vaccination certificates, COVID-19 recovery certificates, COVID-19 medical examinations) in order for them to be allowed to enter the territory of the Republic of Bulgaria,” the official press release quotes.
Moreover, people will no longer be required to wear a facemask while in indoor spaces.
“Our country has been in an extraordinary epidemic situation for almost two years, but at the moment, the situation is being monitored and managed in a predictable way. There is no need to maintain restrictions on citizens and businesses,” the local authorities recently stated.
The decision is considered to be untimely due to the fact that Bulgaria has the lowest vaccination rate among the Member States of the European Union, with only 30.2 per cent of the Bulgarians were given the first dose of the vaccine for the disease. The data has been provided by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDPC).
As for the current situation, according to latest World Health Organisation (WHO) official figures, the country has reported 3.767 Covid-19 infections and 60 deaths. The data refers to the last week only.
Covid-19 pandemic related travel restrictions have also been lifted in other countries across Europe, such as Ireland, Latvia, Norway, Poland, Romania, Czechia, Denmark, Hungary, Iceland, Slovenia, and Sweden, Switzerland and Lithuania.
