Brussels International Airport Was Reopened on Sunday

The first of three flights set for Sunday to be landing was Faro in Portugal at 13:40 local time (11:40 GMT), with only 60-70 passengers on board. The two other flights had as destination Turin and Athens, and had been scheduled later in the afternoon.
On Monday there are scheduled other important flights, including one to New York and others to Cameroon, Gambia and Senegal. Many air flights were diverted to other airports in Belgium, but also in neighboring countries such as the airports of Paris and Amsterdam.
Passengers are screened at the entrance to the terminal, where the number of military and police patrols had been strongly increased. The temporary check-in area, built after the attacks of 22 March, will accommodate 800 passengers, which means no more than six flights per hour, representing a fifth of the previous capacity of the airport.
Brussels Zaventem International Airport is one of the largest in Europe, serving approximately 23.5 million passengers per year. It liaises with 226 destinations worldwide through 77 airlines.
The return to full operational capacity of the airport is planned for the end of June or early July before the start of the summer holidays.
