British Airways welcomes millionth A380 passenger at Los Angeles airport

Airline News

British Airways just had its millionth A380 passenger on flight BA268 from Los Angeles to London – the first destination that the airline's giant plane flew on its maiden flight.

British Airways received its first A380 in July 2013. The first flight took off from Los Angeles on September 24th, 2013, after a relatively complex insertion in the service programme.

At the moment, British Airways has 8 its 12 A380s due to add to the fleet connecting Heathrow to Los Angeles, Washington, Cape Town, Johannesburg, Hong Kong and Singapore.

Starting next April, the superjumbos will also start servicing San Francisco, followed by Miami in October, which will have a double daily service.

The new A380 route to Miami is part of the airline's strategy to boost the usage of facilities in Terminal 3 and Terminal 5, by uniting its operations in two terminals and clearing out Terminal 1.

In the next 12 months, flights to twenty British Airways destination will switch terminals at Heathrow. It's expected that, by the middle of October 2015, all of the airline's flights will take off from either the main oneworld alliance Heathrow base in Terminal 3 or its flagship home of Terminal 5.

British Airways is investing more than £5 billion in new aircrafts, elegant lounges, smarter cabins, and new technologies that will make life more comfortable both on the ground and in the air.
