Passenger Tragically Dies On Bahamas Ferry

A catamaran carrying more than a hundred people from Nassau, Bahamas, to a private island capsized, killing one American tourist.
An unnamed 74-year-old lady from Broomfield, Colorado, who was on a five-day holiday with her family, has died when the catamaran sunk, reported an Associated Press story, which featured footage showing people in life-jackets fleeing off the sinking boat.
According to a statement made by the police, the unconscious woman was discovered when they were pulling passengers and crew members from the water on board the vessel. A CPR attempt was made on the passenger, after which she was transported to a pier where it was determined that she had passed away.
It is not known what caused the death of the lone victim of the sinking. According to the report, the rest of the ship's occupants and crew were safely evacuated. Two other persons were taken to a medical facility, but there is no information available about their current condition.
According to reports, the vessel was less than one hundred yards away from Blue Lagoon, a private island in the Bahamas that the catamaran was on its way to visit when it sunk. In the footage, you can see boats coming to the rescue of some of the passengers; an Associated Press story said that the Royal Bahamas Defense Force and nearby ships assisted in the rescue of people.
The elderly woman who passed away had been a guest on one of Royal Caribbean's ships and had just been on a beach excursion, according to a spokeswoman for the cruising company who was mentioned in news reports.
The representative for the company expressed their condolences in a statement by saying: “We are saddened to hear that one of our guests passed away following an accident on a shore excursion in Nassau, Bahamas. Our hearts are with the families involved and our Care Team has been activated to support them during this difficult time.”
According to sources, an investigation is currently underway.
