Palma Airport Advises Early Arrival Amid Security Delays

Airlines & Airports

Travelers at Palma Airport face significant security delays, with airlines recommending passengers to arrive three hours before flights. The situation is attributed to speculated unannounced strikes and staffing issues.

Recent events at Palma Airport have led to lengthy delays at security checkpoints, prompting airlines to advise passengers to arrive at least three hours prior to their scheduled flights. The cause of these delays is believed to be unofficial strikes by security staff from the company Trablisa, alongside concerns regarding staffing shortages and changes in training requirements enforced by Spain’s Aviation Safety and Security Agency.

Trablisa has denied claims of strike actions, instead pointing to the lack of adequate resources and planning to accommodate the influx of travelers during the busy Easter period. In response to the ongoing situation, passengers are being urged to follow their airline's recommendations closely, including arriving at the airport well in advance.

Airlines are also extending the operational hours of check-in desks to allow for earlier baggage drop-off, enabling passengers to proceed to security checks sooner. Travelers are reminded to minimize hand luggage to expedite the screening process, as the airport has yet to implement new CT scanners, necessitating the removal of liquids and electronics from bags for separate scanning.

As the situation unfolds, travelers flying from Palma in the near future should stay informed on the latest airline advice and airport updates to ensure a smooth journey.
