Officials have lifted the Zika virus travel warning for four countries

Travel Health

CDC has declared high-altitude destinations as at “minimal risk” for Zika virus, since the Aedes Egypti mosquitoes can be found only in humid climates

“High ground” is considered Zika virus free by health experts. Therefore safer.

According to the CDC new regulations, destinations above 2,000 meters (6,500 feet), such as Mexico City, Quito, Ecuador, La Paz, Bolivia and Bogota, Colombia have been declared safe for travelling and have been officially lifted travel warnings regarding Zika virus outbreak. Lower altitude destinations although, can put pregnant travelers at risk, the Centers for Disease Control still warns.

The initial travel alerts included all of Latin America and South America countries, which considerably affected these destination's travel industry. Since the travel ban guidelines release, many tourists switched holiday preferences and tourism and local farmers were affected in the Zika-risk countries.

Starting the beginning of the outbreak, international health officials have promoted prevention as the main method to stop the spreading and protect people's health. The Obama administration has called for around $1.8 million budget to fight against Zika virus, as the president declared that “this sort of falls in the category of things that shouldn’t break down along party lines.”

Until further notice, Zika travel guidelines are very important and must be taken very seriously, especially by pregnant women that want to travel to areas affected by the disease.
