New Mothers Will Have More Benefits as Air India Revises Policy
Air India has updated its policies regarding female employees, offering them more options and support after childbirth.
Air India has increased the length of maternity leave and offered new mothers the opportunity to choose a more manageable flight schedule until their baby turns one.
Faster turnaround
According to a report from the Press Trust of India, Air India has extended its maternity leave by 26 weeks. This is in comparison to 12 weeks previously.
The new communication also lists the benefits for female pilots, which include faster turnaround times for their child until they turn one. However, this will depend on availability and schedules.
Program for Returning Mothers
These new rules are part the carrier's "MOMS – Returning Mothers Program". They will apply to all new mothers who have chosen adoption or surrogacy.
The acronym MOMS (Making Our Mothers Soar) is used in the title of the program. Female employees will be able to receive nutritional guidance and daycare services on a copay basis under the new benefits. According to the communication, counseling sessions will be offered by the company to help with "mental well-being", preparation for childbirth, and return to work plans for expectant mothers.
Change the culture
Air India has seen significant changes under the Tatas. These include fleet restructuring and a shift in customer services policies. The company is also undergoing changes such as introducing a new culture and procedures.
Air India already offers two voluntary retirement plans to its employees. These schemes promise monetary benefits. The scheme was adopted by around 1,500 employees the first time, with thousands more likely to follow suit.
The carrier is also hiring talent across all departments, including flying crew and all levels of management. Over the past few months, many top-ranking to mid-level executives joined the company in roles such as engineering, revenue management, and network planning. Many of these executives have made the move from Indian airlines to join Air India because of the growing opportunities for growth.
Air India has ambitious growth plans for the future decade. It also wants to improve its working culture and implement new policies for its next 10 years.
