NCL Is Shaking Up Its Entertainment By Going Beyond The Broadway Scene

Norwegian Cruise Line is well-known for its Broadway-calibre shows.
And the company’s latest Viva cruise ship is no different, as the vessel debuted last month on a voyage from Trieste, Italy to Lisbon, Portugal, while featuring a production of the musical "Beetlejuice" as its hallmark onboard play.
According to Richard Ambrose, senior vice president of entertainment and cruise programming for NCL, the live performance is "by far" the largest production the company has ever put together.
However, Norwegian is in the process of revamping the entertainment options available on all of its ships.
The cruise liner's goal is to continue providing entertaining performances with top-notch talent and production values, as it is actively collaborating with some of the most gifted artists in and out of the theatre industry to develop fresh, cutting-edge shows for all audiences.
At the same time, the Prima-class theatres aboard the ships provide a more intimate viewing experience than their proscenium counterparts. As an example, the transformative stages aboard Norwegian Prima and Norwegian Viva enable organizers to present shows that go beyond what has been created in the past.
The facility's many functions are integrated into the performance, making it more than simply a setting for the play. The floor seats may be removed completely or partly in the upgraded theatres of the Prima class. Beyond the layout improvements made on the Prima, the Viva theater has also had an LED screen added in the chandelier.
At a press briefing aboard the Viva, cruise director Marzena Slodyczka said that the ship's theatre has a unique layout, which takes passengers to an another level when it comes to the ship's entertainment. According to Slodyczka, there are a total of five possible setups for the shows. At the same time, instead of merely observing, attendees will be invited to take part in the action.
In addition to "Beetlejuice," NCL is planning to present a show on the Viva called "Icons," which will include six vocalists paying homage to artists including "Beetlejuice" stars Elton John and Lady Gaga. It's a performance that worked out perfectly with the debut of the newest ship in the fleet.
Guests of the Viva will also be able to try their luck at the famous game show "Press Your Luck Live," all of which are free to play and win cash prizes. Additional activities include a miniature golf course, towering water-slides and dry slides, a virtual reality arcade, and escape rooms in the Galaxy Pavilion.
The cruise company stated that the entertainment revamp is part of a multiyear plan that would see first-at-sea performances and unique content introduced gradually throughout the fleet over the course of many years.
According to Andrea Sugranes, NCL's public relations manager, new shows will debut as early as autumn.
