Minor International Leads in Sustainability, Ranked Top Hotel Operator by S&P Global

Hotels & Resorts

Minor International has been recognized as the leading hotel operator in S&P Global's Sustainability Yearbook 2024, showcasing its commitment to environmental and social responsibility in the hospitality industry.

Minor International, the powerhouse behind Minor Hotels, has been distinguished as the top hotel operator and the second overall in the hotel industry in S&P Global's esteemed Sustainability Yearbook 2024. This recognition places Minor International at the forefront of the hospitality sector's efforts towards sustainable and responsible travel, making it the only hotel operator to land in the top 10% of the Hotels, Resorts, and Cruise Lines industry category, which evaluated 61 companies worldwide.

The Sustainability Yearbook 2024, which honors 759 companies out of more than 9,400 assessed based on the S&P Global 2023 Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA) Score, acknowledges organizations that excel in managing environmental, social, and governance (ESG) risks and opportunities. Minor International's standout performance, particularly in Business Ethics and Human Capital Development, alongside its strong Climate Strategy, Talent Attraction, and Retention initiatives, underscores the company's leadership in sustainable practices within the hospitality industry.

For four years running, Minor International has consistently been featured in the Yearbook, marking its second consecutive year within the top 10% echelon. Chompan Kulnides, Minor International's Chief Sustainability Officer, attributes this success to the company's dedication to 'Shared Value Creation,' emphasizing a balanced approach to business growth that benefits both the environment and society. This strategy involves significant investments in human capital, a commitment to reducing carbon emissions, biodiversity protection, and rigorous corporate governance standards.

In alignment with its sustainability goals, Minor Hotels has pledged to become a net-zero organization by 2050, with interim targets aimed at lowering energy and water usage as well as CO2 emissions. Since 2008, the company's sustainability efforts have been measured against the Green Growth 2050 standards, one of the travel and tourism industry's most comprehensive sustainability benchmarks. To date, 20 of Minor Hotels’ properties have achieved Platinum certification, setting a high bar for the Anantara and Avani brands.

Beyond environmental stewardship, Minor Hotels actively engages in community-focused sustainability initiatives, including education, health, and environmental conservation. Through its Dollars for Deeds program, guests are encouraged to contribute to local community projects. Moreover, Minor Hotels supports various foundations, such as The Golden Triangle Asian Elephant Foundation and The Mai Khao Turtle Foundation, further exemplifying its commitment to making a positive impact on society and the planet.
