Michelin Guide 2024 Unveils New Stars for UK and Ireland’s Culinary Scene

Destinations & Tourism

The Michelin Guide 2024 announces new star recipients across the UK and Ireland, spotlighting exceptional culinary talent and sustainability efforts in the industry.

The Michelin Guide has once again spotlighted the culinary excellence across the UK and Ireland, with its latest awards ceremony held in Manchester on February 5, 2024. This year, the prestigious guide has added 18 restaurants to its one-star category, six establishments to the two-star ranking, and elevated one exceptional dining spot to its highest accolade of three stars.

The Ledbury, located in London's Notting Hill, emerged as the singular new entry into the three-star echelon, joining the ranks of the guide's most elite restaurants. Known for its exquisite £210 tasting menu, The Ledbury stands out as a testament to the pinnacle of culinary achievement. The guide's existing three-star restaurants successfully retained their esteemed positions, highlighting the sustained excellence within this exclusive group.

The two-star category saw significant additions, including London's Gymkhana and Birmingham's Opheem, marking a historic moment as they became the first Indian restaurants in the UK to achieve this distinction. Other notable entrants include Brooklands in London and The Glenturret Lalique in Crieff, showcasing the diverse culinary talent across the region.

The one-star segment welcomed a variety of establishments, from the izakaya-inspired Humble Chicken and West African culinary gem Akoko in London, to The Bishop’s Buttery in Cashel, offering refined Irish cuisine. This influx of new stars reinforces London's dominance in the Michelin Guide, with the city home to the majority of this year’s awardees.

Additionally, the Michelin Guide announced 20 new Bib Gourmands last week, recognizing restaurants that offer exceptional value for money. This category aims to celebrate a broader spectrum of culinary traditions, with this year's selections including a Japanese bistro in Cork and a Punjabi and Northwest Indian cuisine spot in London.

The Green Star category, highlighting establishments committed to sustainability, added six restaurants to its list, including Annwyn in Wales and Exmoor Forest Inn in England. This recognition underscores the growing importance of environmental responsibility in the culinary world.

Special awards were also presented, with Jakes Jones of Forge being named Young Chef of the year, Robbie Ashby of Exeter’s Stage receiving the Service Award, Valentin Mouillard of L’Enclume winning the Sommelier Award, and Ryan McHarg of The Spence securing the Exceptional Cocktails award.

The 2024 Michelin Guide's latest additions offer a glimpse into the dynamic and diverse culinary landscape of the UK and Ireland, celebrating the artistry, innovation, and commitment of chefs and restaurateurs across the region.
