
Marriott International Brings Three Hotels to Marica, Rio de Janeiro

The brands that are to be brought to Marica include the Ritz-Carlton Reserve, JW Marriott and the Rock in Rio, Autograph Collection.
These brands include Ritz-Carlton Reserve which will be its first resort in South America, JW Marriott which is expected to become the brand's first all-inclusive hotel in South America, and Rock in Rio, Autograph Collection which will be the first hotel that has the festival's name.
These hotels will have over 1,100 rooms of the highest standard and an estimated MARAEY investment in excess of US$ 360 million. The project will create 16,000 jobs in the construction phase and attract more than 300,000 tourists each year.
MARAEY, Brazil’s largest sustainable tourist-residential company, announced today that it had signed an agreement to build three hotels in Marica, Rio de Janeiro. These projects are strategically placed to create an international tourist destination that is focused on sustainability, innovation, and high-end service.
The three-hotel complex, located 45 kilometers from Rio de Janeiro is expected to introduce the Ritz-Carlton Reserve brand in Brazil and South America. The JW Marriott, which is being built, will be the first all-inclusive hotel in the world. Autograph Collection, the innovative hotel that will house Rock in Rio is set to be the first theme hotel named after the festival that draws thousands of people.
Laurent de Kousemaeker is Marriott International's Chief Developer Officer for the Caribbean & Latin America Region and said:
"We are excited to announce the agreement with Iniciativas e Desenvolvimento Imobiliario Brasil for three hotels within their vast Master Project in Marica, which will undoubtably transform the eastern part of Rio in the coming years. In addition to the quality of the projects and ideal beachfront locations, we were impressed by the developer's passion and commitment to raise awareness around environmental sustainability, sociocultural issues, and education, which aligns with our values."
The properties will have more than 1,100 rooms and generate over 16,000 indirect and direct jobs during construction. Once operational, they are expected to create more than 3,500 new jobs. Abacus Group's Economic Impact Study found that the hotels would stimulate economic and tourism growth in Rio de Janeiro and Brazil. It is expected that there will be 300,000 and 150,000 direct visitors each year.
Emilio Izquierdo is the Chief Executive Officer at MARAEY. He mentioned:
"This agreement reinforces our commitment to create a tourist center of excellence just a short distance from Rio de Janeiro, in Marica. Each hotel has complementary visions and the highest quality infrastructure, an exclusive leisure experience, comfort, and well-being by the sea and the lagoon, surrounded by the exuberant nature of the region. Also, in association with these Marriott hotels, we anticipate developing 244 exclusive branded residences (villas, duplexes, and apartments). Their unique architecture, quality construction, and services will undoubtedly become South America's most exclusive first and second-home residential development."
The JW Marriott will offer 120 guest rooms with more than 2,500 sq. feet, large patios and swimming pools. There are also 164 residences that can be branded measuring up to 6,000 sq. feet. The hotel, which will feature thoughtful programming and all-inclusive amenities, will be located at the Marica lagoon and hills. It is expected to offer a variety entertainment spaces, including restaurants, shops, spas, pools, and a gym.
Rock in Rio, Autograph Collection, part of Autograph Collection Hotels, is a collection diverse and dynamic independent properties that champion individuality and offer immersive moments which leave a lasting impression for guests. It will bring you the best music and entertainment festivals around. It is expected to include 912 rooms and a nearly one-kilometer long structure on the beachfront. There will also be a wide variety of entertainment options that will create unforgettable memories. Open-air performances by internationally acclaimed artists, indoor and outdoors recreational sporting activities, wellness areas and a convention centre are just a few of the attractions that are expected to be there.

The Abacus Group, a global architecture and urbanism consulting firm, is leading the project to bring three hotels and branded residences into being. Construction is expected to start in the second half 2023.
