Lufthansa Group Enhances Flight Experience with Authentic Japanese Cuisine

Lufthansa Group introduces traditional Japanese in-flight meals on flights to and from Japan, celebrating nearly 60 years of connection between Japan and Europe.
Lufthansa Group Brings Japanese Culinary Delights to the Skies
The Lufthansa Group, with a nearly six-decade history of connecting Europe and Japan, is further deepening its ties with Japan by incorporating authentic Japanese cuisine into its in-flight service. This move, which includes both Lufthansa and Swiss International Airlines (SWISS), aims to celebrate and share Japan's rich culinary heritage with travelers.
Lufthansa reintroduced Japanese food to its in-flight menu in late 2023 for passengers traveling to and from Japan. Now, passengers can savor traditional dishes such as sushi, sukiyaki, and soba noodles across all classes. This gastronomic experience is designed to mirror the depth and diversity of Japanese cuisine, with Business class passengers enjoying a multi-course meal reflective of Japan's traditional dining structure.
Notably, on flights like LH717 from Tokyo to Frankfurt, all passengers can enjoy meals crafted by expert chefs using traditional recipes. The airline ensures a memorable dining experience by using fresh ingredients and serving dishes on fine ceramic tableware in First and Business class. This attention to detail aims to replicate the atmosphere of a traditional Japanese restaurant in the sky.
SWISS has also embraced local catering, offering passengers flying to and from Tokyo a selection of Japanese meals. Unlike Lufthansa, SWISS advises passengers to pre-book their Japanese meal choices.
This initiative by the Lufthansa Group not only highlights its commitment to cultural exchange but also enhances the travel experience by providing a taste of Japan's culinary delights onboard. By introducing authentic local catering on flights to and from Japan, the Group continues to strengthen its longstanding relationship with the country, inviting passengers to embark on a cultural journey even before they land.
