Lufthansa and its subsidiary Austrian Airlines are opening three new routes to Lapland for the upcoming winter season. Lufthansa will introduce scheduled flights from Frankfurt to Rovaniemi in November 2024, while Austrian Airlines will launch routes from Vienna to Kittilä and Ivalo in December 2024 and January 2025, respectively.

Lufthansa: Frankfurt to Rovaniemi
Lufthansa will operate flights between Frankfurt and Rovaniemi twice a week on Tuesdays and Saturdays. The service will run from November 30, 2024, to March 29, 2025, catering to travelers seeking a winter getaway in the heart of Lapland.
Austrian Airlines: Vienna to Kittilä and Ivalo
Austrian Airlines will offer flights from Vienna to Kittilä on Sundays, starting from December 8, 2024, to March 16, 2025. Additionally, flights from Vienna to Ivalo will operate on Saturdays from January 25, 2025, to March 1, 2025. Austrian Airlines will also continue its Vienna to Rovaniemi route, initially launched in December 2023, with flights on Saturdays and an additional 11 weekly flights on Wednesdays.

The new routes are expected to significantly boost tourism in Lapland, which has seen record growth in recent winter seasons. Petri Vuori, Finavia’s SVP of Sales & Route Development, stated: “The new route openings will boost the record growth in tourism in Lapland that we have already witnessed in previous winter seasons. The increased route connections are a testament to Lapland's international appeal and demonstrate the good cooperation we are doing with our partners to develop Finland's accessibility."
