LLA Opens New Assisted Travel Lounge for PRM Passengers

Airlines & Airports

London Luton Airport (LLA) has opened a new Assisted Travel lounge, designed to enhance the passenger experience for those with reduced mobility or accessibility needs. The airside lounge, which can accommodate up to 50 passengers, features a range of amenities including a sensory space, adult changing facilities, dedicated seating for mobility support, flight information screens, charging stations for electronic devices and wheelchairs, and access to drinking water.

The new facility follows LLA’s recent top-tier ‘Very Good’ rating from the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) for its services to passengers requiring assistance. The airport currently fulfils over 700 pre-booked requests for assisted travel every day.

Alberto Martin, CEO of London Luton Airport, said:
“This is a hugely important investment that underlines our ongoing commitment to delivering a simple, friendly and inclusive passenger experience. We’re proud to have worked closely with our Accessibility Forum to ensure the space truly meets passenger needs.”

Andrew Wright, Chair of the London Luton Airport Accessibility Forum, added:
“The lounge is spacious, bright, and purpose-built, shaped by the lived experience and input of our members.”

The launch strengthens LLA’s position as a leader in accessibility. It is the first UK airport to be certified under the new BSI Kitemark™ for Service Excellence, and has been shortlisted in two categories at the 2025 Customer Experience (CX) Awards. The airport is also a double finalist in the Travel for Every Body Awards, in recognition of its commitment to inclusive travel through initiatives such as Accessibility Familiarisation Days and infrastructure investments like the new lounge.

The lounge is part of LLA’s broader strategy to improve inclusivity while maintaining its position as one of the UK’s leading airports. With over 16.7 million passengers in 2024, LLA continues to grow its reputation for delivering strong service quality, accessibility, and sustainability.
