Lithuania attracts more British tourists

As the Baltic tourism is growing, Lithuania registered a 7.6 per cent increase in visitor numbers from UK.

According to the figures released by the Lithuanian State Department of Tourism, 58.200 British tourists have chosen to spend their holidays in the country during 2016. The numbers confirm the fifth consecutive year in which the Baltic destinations receives the attention of the UK holidaymakers.

In addition to the increasing number of British tourists, the country registered a record of 1.49 million international visits in 2016, which accounts for a 9.4 per cent increase when compared to the previous year and qualifies Lithuania as the preferred destination in the Baltic area.

“Lithuania is a country bursting with culture, art, entertainment, gastronomy and natural beauty. It’s therefore not surprising that we are seeing record visitor numbers from the UK year after year. Lithuania is experiencing an exciting surge in developments and new openings across the country this year and beyond, making it an increasingly attractive and affordable holiday destination,” explained the chief PR specialist at LSDT, Gerda Butkuviene.

As next year on February 16th the country celebrates 100 years since the re-claiming of its independence as a democratic state, officials expect tourists to flock into the country from all over the world.

With a rich cultural heritage and unique architecture and events, Lithuania attracts million of tourists eager to visit beautiful sites such as capital Vilnius, the Curonian Split, an UNESCO World Heritage Centre, and countless amazing museums and cathedrals.
