KLM’s first Airbus A350 enters final assembly in Toulouse

Airlines & Airports

KLM has reached a major milestone in its fleet renewal programme, with its first Airbus A350 now entering the Final Assembly Line at Airbus facilities in Toulouse.

At this stage, the aircraft’s main components are brought together as it takes its final shape, with the tail already painted in KLM’s signature livery. The airline expects to receive its first A350 by the end of summer 2026.

The Airbus A350 will play a key role in KLM’s transition to a more efficient and sustainable fleet. Compared to the Boeing 777-200ER, the new aircraft consumes approximately 25% less fuel and produces a significantly smaller noise footprint, reducing noise levels by around 40%.

Passengers can expect improved onboard comfort, including one of the quietest cabins in its class, enhanced air quality and higher cabin pressure. For pilots, the aircraft features a fully digital cockpit designed to improve operational efficiency and support.

The A350 introduction is part of a broader fleet renewal strategy, with KLM planning to invest €7 billion in new aircraft over the coming years. Alongside the A350, the airline is introducing Embraer 195-E2 aircraft for regional operations, Airbus A321neo jets for European routes and additional Boeing 787 aircraft for long-haul services.

Looking ahead, KLM also plans to add the Airbus A350F freighter to its cargo fleet in 2027, further expanding its long-term operational capabilities.
