KLM Launches New Amsterdam–Kittilä Route
Kittilä Airport celebrated the launch of a new seasonal route on Sunday, 23 November, as KLM inaugurated direct flights between Amsterdam Schiphol and Kittilä. The service strengthens Lapland’s growing international connectivity ahead of the winter travel season.
We warmly welcome KLM’s inaugural flight to Kittilä Airport,” said Jonna Pietilä, Finavia’s Regional Director of Lapland Airports. “This new direct route is an excellent addition to Kittilä’s international connections.”
KLM says demand for travel to northern Europe continues to rise.
“We see very strong demand from across Europe and beyond for travel to the northern part of Europe,” noted Tom Verbugt, General Manager North Europe AFKL. “Following the success of Rovaniemi, we are increasing capacity there and now adding Kittilä.”
The inauguration event was attended by KLM CEO Marjan Rintel, regional and local leaders, and representatives from Visit Levi, Visit Ylläs, and Finavia. Passengers on the first flight were welcomed with Finnish glögi and a traditional yoik performance.
The new route further enhances Lapland’s accessibility for winter tourism, bringing more visitors to the region’s ski resorts and Arctic attractions.
