Kenya Airways launches direct Gatwick–Nairobi route

London Gatwick has launched a new direct connection to Nairobi, Kenya, with the debut of Kenya Airways’ three-weekly service, starting 3 July. This marks the only non-stop route between London Gatwick and the Kenyan capital and is a key step in expanding the airport’s links to high-growth African markets.

The route adds to Gatwick’s growing African footprint, now encompassing 19 destinations, and follows recent launches by Uganda Airlines and Ethiopian Airlines. With this addition, Gatwick continues to position itself as a major hub for trade, tourism, and investment between the UK and the African continent.
“We are delighted to welcome this new service from Kenya Airways,” said Jonathan Pollard, Chief Commercial Officer at London Gatwick. “It’s a vital route to Nairobi with strong onward connectivity across the region and supports our mission to increase long-haul reach.”
The Nairobi route enables seamless travel to more than 40 African destinations, including Johannesburg, Seychelles, Kilimanjaro, and Zanzibar—making it an important link for both business and leisure travelers.
Allan Kilavuka, CEO of Kenya Airways, emphasized the broader impact: “This inaugural flight is about more than just a new destination—it’s about building bridges for trade, tourism, education, and collaboration between Kenya and the UK.”
The UK Government also welcomed the development. Lord Collins, Minister for Africa, said: “This first-of-its-kind direct flight is fantastic news for strengthening our economic and cultural ties.”
With demand for long-haul travel from South East England on the rise, the Gatwick–Nairobi route reinforces the strategic importance of connecting the UK with key African economies.
