July's Peak Days in Copenhagen Experience Daily Footfall of Over 100,000 Travelers

Copenhagen Airport (CPH), which has been experiencing a significant increase in air traffic, reached a major milestone after surpassing 100,000 passengers for two consecutive days during July.
A recent report from an airport revealed the strong desire for summer holiday air travel. The report showed that the month of July 2023 was the busiest since 2019 with 2,833,969 passengers in total.
"The two busiest days of travel were Friday, July 14 and Sunday, July 16, when 101,225 and 100,013 passengers respectively passed through the airport," the report states.
CPH Airport data also shows that in addition to the two busiest days, there were 10 additional days where passenger numbers exceeded 95,000. The airport, in response to the increased demand, has added over 200 employees to its 1,000 hired last year.
Peter Krogsgaard, Chief Commercial Officer at Copenhagen Airports, explains that issues with air traffic controllers were a major challenge, causing disruptions to travel plans in both the north and south of Europe.
In terms of flights to EU destinations, 94% of travellers are now travelling again. However, there are fewer flights coming from Asia and China compared to pre-COVID.
CPH figures revealed that London, once again, claimed the top spot in the list of ten most popular travel destinations for the entire month with 172,000 passengers.
Spain is the leader in the race to escape the historically wet July of Denmark. It has accumulated a significant number of 450,000 passengers over the first two summer months.
A number of Spanish destinations are also gaining in popularity, surpassing the levels they had before COVID. Malaga and Palma, in July, achieved indices of 112 and 106 respectively, as compared with the 2019 figures.
According to these statistics, Greece is also a popular destination for charter flights. A significant number of 180,000 travellers who travelled to Greek destinations in June and July 2023 chose charter flights. Crete is the most popular and desired destination in Greece.
Copenhagen Airport welcomed 2.4 million passengers in May 2023. On May 21, a new milestone was reached with 96,000 passengers.
A Clean Cities Campaign (CCC), study conducted in July this year, analysed the shared transport options and zero-emissions travel choices available across 42 EU cities. Copenhagen was the most eco-friendly city among these 42 cities.
