Jamaica aims to boost high-end tourism

News

The new high-end tourism zone will be called Revere Zone and will be located along the island’s northern coast, between Oracabessa to Port Antonio. The area is set to keep a wild appearance and avoid over-development, while capturing the amazing natural landscape of the island.

“As we are working to diversify our tourism sector, we could not be more pleased to create an area that provides a different type of experience for a high-end traveller”, explained the country’s Minister of Tourism, Edmund Bartlett.

The area will also include several coastal towns, like Ocho Rios, Oracabessa, Port Maria, Saint Ann’s Bay, Runaway Bay, and Discovery Bay, as well as new highways connecting Ian Fleming International Airport directly to the destination in less than one hour.

“[The airport] will play a key role, because you’re going to be able to bring those high, net-worth visitors into this place, and within a few minutes they will be in their wonderful villas and their beautiful hotels along the coast.

“The presence of this third international airport gives Jamaica the unique position in the region of being able to be connected within an hour from any point of entry into the country”, Minister Barlett added.

According to the local authorities, Revere Zone is expected to attract more visits from high-end travellers in Montego Bay and Negril, as well as considerably higher tourism revenue.

The new government’s plan, also known as Jamaica’s Blue Ocean Strategy, was created to boost small and medium-size businesses in the area and promote sustainability across the tourism industry.
