ITA Airways officially joins Star Alliance as 26th member

ITA Airways has officially joined Star Alliance, becoming the alliance’s 26th member and marking a major milestone in the airline’s international expansion.

 

The integration was celebrated during a ceremony at Rome Fiumicino Airport, where executives from ITA Airways, Star Alliance and Lufthansa Group highlighted the completion of the Italian carrier’s transition into the world’s largest airline alliance.

From April 1, ITA Airways is fully integrated into the Star Alliance network, connecting its main hubs in Rome Fiumicino and Milan Linate with more than 1,150 destinations worldwide. The move significantly enhances global connectivity to and from Italy.

Passengers can now benefit from a seamless travel experience across member airlines, including through check-in, access to Star Alliance lounges, and reciprocal frequent flyer benefits such as earning and redeeming miles.

ITA Airways adds more than 350 daily flights to the alliance network and strengthens connections across Southern Europe, while also improving links to key international markets.

The integration was supported by Lufthansa Group, which played a key role in guiding ITA Airways through the process. The collaboration reflects a broader strategic alignment between the two groups, aimed at delivering enhanced value and connectivity for passengers.

With ITA Airways joining, Star Alliance now offers over 17,500 daily flights across more than 190 countries, further reinforcing its position as the world’s largest global airline network.
